Journal 4: Interview with Isabel Lopez-Quesada
The most recognized Spanish decorator in the world. Isabel opened her first decoration studio when she was 20 years old. Now she is the one who creates trends thanks to her taste and elegance.
“I find inspiration in everything, travels, houses from other eras, books...It stays inside you, you soak it in and the ideas end up coming out.”
What decorating trends do you consider overrated at the moment?
“Overrated all of them, because the excess of images is exhausting, too much information, too many images.”
And which ones underrated?
“Sometimes I think that what I do is different, I only like what is authentic, that is sincere, coherent with the site, with the architecture, with the people who are going to inhabit it... now everything is a bit unreal, for the photo.”
“She transmits me in ISITA and I transmit her in ILQ. We bring a lot to each other, but we have a similar aesthetic, she has a lot of personality, and opinion, I like that.”
What is the most common mistake people make when decorating their home?
“Wanting to put everything without thinking about harmony and space.”
What influences or references have marked your way of designing?
“The time in which you are born always marks you and the time in which you get to work. I immediately went to London, Paris and New York to look for suppliers, to see what was being done outside, hotels, restaurants, stores, everything was important to see. I've been around so long that I've picked up several trends, I even think I've created trends too, and that fills me with pride.”
“A lot! And that they suffer a lot on construction sites.”
What would your perfect Cayumas be like?
“I like them all! The coloring is amazing.”
