Journal 36: Interview with María Ruiz Acuña
María is a communications and public relations professional. She is the co-founder of On The List Comm, where her projects are defined by a personal approach, aesthetic care, and attention to brand consistency. Her taste in fashion is a benchmark for an entire community.
When did you discover your aesthetic sensitivity for fashion?
“Since I was little I always felt a strong connection with fashion: my mother, besides having great style and taste, once owned a multi‑brand boutique, and I loved going with her to fairs and showrooms to pick collections.
After studying journalism, I pursued a master’s degree specializing in fashion and beauty communication. My surroundings encouraged me to start a blog where I would show my daily looks. Then Instagram … In the end, something I had always loved, something that came naturally to me, became part of my everyday life and my work.”
Which wardrobe staples do you always get right?
“A white tee paired with a boxy menswear blazer and jeans.
And, of course … some Cayumas ;)”
What was the original vision when founding On The List?
“I felt the need to do for myself everything I had learned and worked on in recent years — not dependent on someone else. Many brands were already reaching out asking me to help them with communication. At that moment I was at a turning point professionally, so it was perfect to consider it and carry it out. After six years, OnTheList has given both my partner and me many joys, and I hope we can continue like this for a long time more.”
What has the experience been like balancing your profession with motherhood?
“It’s quite a challenge. For the past two years I have devoted (and strived) to finding that middle point that allows me to fit work in with caring for my daughters. I think the most important thing is to be well organized and be aware that you can’t do everything. I love my work, and at the same time I try to be a very present mother in their lives.”
What place in the world would you like to travel wearing your friulanas?
“Australia. I’d absolutely love it!”
What importance do you give to shoes in your day to day?
“Shoes can make the look. I love starting with basics and giving it a chic twist with the shoes.”
How would your perfect Cayumas be?
“I’m a big fan of the Salomé model. I’d have them in every color!”
