Journal 82: Interview with Linda Scaperotto
Linda Scaperotto is an American entrepreneur and coach who has built her career in the fields of marketing, leadership, and personal development. She combines her professional work with her commitment to promoting well-being, entrepreneurship, and work-life balance.
How has your relationship with fashion and personal style evolved over the years?
"I think my style has evolved alongside the different stages of my life. When I had four children in just three years, I had to become much more practical, but without giving up my love of fashion. I've always believed you shouldn't have to choose between being comfortable and having style. Over time, I've learned how to combine the two, and today the way I dress really reflects that philosophy. Now that my children are a little older, I feel I have more space to experiment with fashion again, try new things, and enjoy it in a different way."
What inspires you most at this stage of your life?
"At this stage of my life, I'm incredibly inspired by people and their stories.
Every Saturday, I interview guests for my radio show, and I'm fascinated by hearing how they've arrived where they are today, the challenges they've overcome, and everything they've learned along the way. I always finish each interview feeling that I've learned something new.
I'm also deeply inspired by my work as an executive coach. I combine my MBA from IE Business School with something that has always come naturally to me: listening, asking thoughtful questions, and empathizing with people. Supporting someone as they launch a new project, change careers, or take an important step in their life is a real privilege. Seeing their enthusiasm, dedication, and determination is incredibly motivating.
I've always been very selective about the people I allow into my life. Whether they're the people I interview, my coaching clients, or my closest friends, I surround myself with people who add value, teach me new things, and help me grow. In the end, what inspires me most are the stories of the people around me and everything I learn from them."
What value do you place on handcrafted pieces, on things made by hand? Like our authentic Italian Friulane slippers.
"For me, handcrafted pieces are special because there are real people behind every one of them. There are names, stories, years of learning, experience, and craftsmanship. And I believe that, in some way, you carry all of that with you when you wear them.
I think true luxury lies in pieces like these—unique creations made with time, care, and a level of craftsmanship that is becoming increasingly rare today.
And I should probably admit that, as an Italian-American, I have a particular weakness for anything made in Italy. I've always been fascinated by Italians' instinctive sense of style. Every time I visit, I'm amazed by the effortless way they combine fabrics, colours, prints, and textures. They truly seem to enjoy the art of dressing, and I think that passion is reflected in everything they create."
Your favourite hotel?
"Without a doubt, I'd say Only YOU Boutique Hotel Madrid, on Barquillo Street. I celebrated my 40th birthday there, so it holds very special memories for me.
I love its design, its personality, and the atmosphere it has. It's one of those hotels I always look forward to returning to."
What place in the world would you most like to explore wearing your Friulane?
"I'd take them to explore my hometown, Philadelphia. It's a city that will always have a special place in my heart.
It sometimes lives in the shadow of New York, but it has a unique personality. Philadelphians have a wonderful sense of humour, a resilient spirit—after all, Rocky Balboa was from there—and a very natural elegance, beautifully embodied by Grace Kelly, who was also born in Philadelphia.
It was also the first capital of the United States, so I think Friulane are the perfect shoes for wandering through its historic stone streets. They share that same blend of history, elegance, and authenticity that defines Philadelphia."
How important are shoes in your everyday life?
"I've loved shoes ever since I was little. My mother used to ask me, 'How many feet do you actually have?' And honestly, I think I own enough shoes for nine lifetimes!
I truly believe that a great pair of shoes can completely transform an outfit. You can be wearing jeans and a simple T-shirt or shirt, but add a pair of shoes with personality, and suddenly the whole look changes.
I always say there are three things that can make any outfit work: a great pair of shoes, a beautiful handbag, and a smile. Get those three right, and even the simplest outfit can become a perfect ten."
