Journal 54: Interview with Casilda de Nicolás

Journal 54: Entrevista a Casilda de Nicolás

Casilda, an entrepreneurial and creative Spanish woman whose career combines aesthetic judgment and strategic vision. Co-founder of Dahlia, she understands fashion as language and memory. She has promoted projects linked to culture and design, with a keen eye for craftsmanship and durability.

Where does your passion for fashion come from and what led you to found Dahlia?
“It was born with me. I always knew that I wanted to devote myself to fashion. Before studying design I was already making my own clothes and fantasising about what my brand would be; I even designed a collection that never saw the light of day. Dahlia came about when I met Vica: I found my ‘other half’. We are the same and we have the same vision, so we launched Dahlia together.”

What has been your greatest learning since Dahlia was born?
“More than one specific lesson, my biggest challenge has been to lose the fear: to take risks without always knowing the outcome. Being a small brand, you face constant challenges; learning to solve them with ingenuity and decisiveness is key. I always say that as an entrepreneur, I know a little bit of everything and understand nothing: when you build something you are learning every single day about all the areas of a company.”

Which moment do you remember with special excitement so far?
“There are many, because Dahlia is a very close project for us. If I have to choose one, I would say our very first sale. We started in a very spontaneous way and, a few months in, we organised a simple sale at a friend’s house. We sold out in one afternoon. That’s when we realised that it could become something bigger.”

How important are shoes in your day-to-day life?
“Very. They can make the look and at the same time, they have to be comfortable because we don’t stop all day.”

What place in the world would you like to explore with the friulane shoes on?
“Anywhere. I wear them all year round and they are always with me: they’re ideal, comfortable and take up no space in the suitcase, so I take them everywhere.”

How would you design your perfect Cayumas?
“My perfect Cayumas would be the Bohème with Dahlia prints!!”
