Journal 32: Interview with Victoria Matossian

Journal 32: Entrevista a Victoria Matossian

Victoria Matossian is a Spanish entrepreneur and fashion designer. Her passion for style led her to found the fashion brand Dahlia. Her career reflects a fusion of creativity, sophistication, and an international vocation.

Where does your passion for fashion come from, and what motivated you to start Dahlia?

“I have always loved clothes, and when I met Cassie, we discovered we shared the same passion. Every time we got dressed to go out or for day‑to‑day, we’d comment on what was missing in our wardrobe: a shirt, a specific jacket… Until one day we thought: why not make them ourselves? We took the leap without thinking too much, and that’s how Dahlia started.”

What do you consider has been your biggest learning since Dahlia was born?
“We have learned a lot, but the most important thing is that a clothing brand isn’t just about design and fabrics. It’s a company with many different roles that forces you to adapt, to organize yourself, and to learn everything. That balance between creativity and management has been key in being able to grow.”

What moment with the brand do you remember with special excitement so far?
“There are many special moments because Dahlia is a very personal project for us, but if I had to choose one, it would be our first sale. We started the brand very spontaneously, and a few months later we organized a simple sale at a friend’s house. We sold all the stock in one afternoon and it was then when we realized that it really could become something bigger.”

How important are shoes in your daily life?
“Shoes are very important to me. When I find a pair that’s comfortable and I can use in different situations, they become my favorites and I wear them all the time.”

What place in the world would you like to explore while wearing the friulane shoes?
“Anywhere. They are so comfortable and easy that I always pack a pair in my suitcase. They accompany me on my travels because I know they’ll work for anything.”

How would you design your perfect Cayumas?
“I would make them from scraps from different collections to make the most of the fabric, as we often do at Dahlia, for example when we use scraps for the pockets of the trousers.”
